Little Personal History
I was playing my Les Paul and singing in my Rock’N’Roll
band during the amazing punk rock scene at CBGB’s in New
York City, when I was “discovered” by America's iconic
fashion designer, Bill Blass. To my really good fortune
and surprise he invited me to be his "house" model for
several seasons, during which time I became one of New
York's top haute couture runway and photographic models
with the FORD agency. Not only did Bill take me around
the world modeling the clothes he designed on me, but
each morning he would drape me in the best fabrics flown
in from Italy and Paris for his line that season.
Subsequently over the years, I brought my acute
awareness that workmanship and quality play in a
designer's piece to my own line today.
Incorporating a taste of my funky flamboyance along with loving hats, I was
destined to create my first quality statement- making hat starting
with the oversized, ever popular reversible cossack worn at that
time by Bette Midler (who came back each season to buy them as gifts
for her pals on the slopes ), Goldie Hawn, Celine Dion, Wynona Judd,
and up and coming rappers at the time. Then several winters ago, I
had tremendous success with the Bear Hat featured in SEVENTEEN
Magazine and the Cossack in INSTYLE, along with a special display at
Henri Bendels store NYC. That same year, my friend Karena asked if I
would make her a “cat” hat to wear on a skiing date. Everyone on the
Vermont slopes that weekend wanted one, so now it is always offered
along with the bear hat, through me only in the fabrics and fur I am
working with that season. Other venues for buying my hats include The Hat Shop in Soho,
NYC .
With
either the Cat, Bear, Cossack, or au currant reversible Urban
Trapper, "you may as well walk down the street naked and no one
would notice anything but the hat", as my friend Micki in Park Slope says.
Call
my Manhattan studio and can we can discuss having a custom made hat
for you, or I can check my inventory so you can wear one ASAP.
